My role
UI Designer. I owned the interface for the website and patient portal and handed off designs to the dev team.
The problem
The site and portal needed a new interface, and the earlier UI was no longer available to build from. Patients had to find a lab, book a visit, and see results, on any screen.
What I designed
Public website
- Home page with a clear "Make Appointment" path and a location search by city, state, or ZIP.
- Entry points for preparing for a test, ordering a lab test, and getting results.
- Navigation split by audience: patients and providers.
- Accessibility tools in the header, including a text size control.
Patient portal
- Account dashboard with tabs for appointments, test results, bill pay, and locations.
- Appointment cards with date, time, location, and directions, plus add to calendar, text reminder, edit, and delete.
- Alerts when new test results are ready.
Responsive design
- Every key screen designed for desktop and mobile, with the main action kept on top.
Why it matters
Healthcare UI has to work for people who are often stressed and in a hurry. The design puts the next step, book, find, or check results, in reach on every screen.
